It’s no surprise that when Vance graduated Cal State L.A., his degree was in Business Administration/Entrepreneurship. After paying his own way through school, he wanted to drive his own destiny by doing good things for people and making money as a result of just that. He learned financial planning in his years at Prudential, starting with a part-time contract and eight years later, managing a team of ten advisors — teaching them how to create financial plans, invest and protect their clients. As their Vice President of Investments, Fleet Securities offered him the opportunity to move their business model from transaction brokerage to full service planning. When they backed out and returned their focus to merely driving revenue, he was outta there. In 2003 he started the company that was to become Hardworking Capital, where he’s never compromised his mission of genuinely caring for and taking care of his clients. And honestly, he’s happy as a clam.
At the end of his day he comes home to Mireya, his “Zumba Queen” wife of 20 years. His daughter, Shaunae, who’s still in high school, loves to sing, act and dance, and, according to Vance, “is awesome at all three.” He describes his son, Jacob, who just started college, as “a super-smart guy who loves playing electric bass and is pursuing his passion in sound system engineering and event production.” If you hang out with Vance, you’ll probably find yourself on a tennis court, a fishing boat, or blissfully chowing down excellent BBQ in his backyard.

What Cathy loves about her job is that there’s no “typical day.” Vance was über-picky about who he hired to run his office, and interviewed 15 prospects before choosing Cathy, whom he describes as “the friendliest perfectionist I’ve ever met.” Her responsibilities range from handling client requests to prepping audits and client reviews, to keeping up with compliance requirements. To say she is indispensable is an understatement.
On the home front, she’s been married for over eight years to hubby, Brett. Daughter Olivia is 8 going on 18. And together they enjoy a Mayberry-esque lifestyle that includes lots of neighborhood parties and hiking with their yellow rescue lab, Buddy. Once Olivia was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes, Cathy became extremely active in JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). Presently, as JDRF Desert Cities Outreach Chair, she is working hard to bring together other Type 1 families in the desert area for support and activities. When not at work or working on JDRF events, you can find the Casden family at the local ice skating rink. Olivia has started competitive ice skating, bringing home two first place trophies in her first ever competition!
Julie’s studies at USC led her from business to cinema to sociology — which helps make her the perfect Experience Specialist. Like Vance, she worked her way to the top in her first job; starting as a video store clerk and not leaving until she served as vice president of the company!
Julie is 100% devoted to keeping your relationship with HWC personal. She’s an expert at anticipating your needs, following up, and keeping in touch. A big part of her job is creating and planning intimate events for our staff, clients and friends they’d like for us to meet. Events like our recent wine tasting, Sacramento River fishing trip, and docent-led art gallery visit complete with fabulous food and wine.
Her home life is dominated by Lucy, a chihuahua-doxie rescue. She allows Julie to pay occasional attention to Scott, her husband of 12 years and their 10-year old son Drew, who is a Krav Maga fanatic. Julie enjoys spending time volunteering in Drew’s fourth grade classroom on a weekly basis.
